Mar-Mar was started in 1994 by husband & wife team Mario & Marzia (hence the name Mar-Mar). Mario & Marzia recognized a growing need for organized accommodations in Riomaggiore to meet the demand of the budding tourism in the village. Based upon this observation, they decided to open an affittacamere (room & apartment rental agency) which allowed visitors a chance to stay in characteristic rooms & apartments throughout the historic center & marina of Riomaggiore.

In 2001, Marzia decided to limit her presence in the office as she dedicated more time to the family. It was at this time that Mario invited his friend Tonino (also a native Riomaggiorese, or inhabitant of Riomaggiore) to enter Mar-Mar as partner.

The year 2003 brought Amy (a California native) to Mar-Mar as an office assistant. Amy had visited the Cinque Terre previously and had fallen in love with the area, its people, and the Italian language. Two years later, Mario & Tonino invited Amy to become the third partner at Mar-Mar.

Our mission at Mar-Mar is to render your stay in the Cinque Terre indimenticabile (unforgettable). We strive to achieve this in two ways: 1) by offering comfortable accommodations at reasonable prices, and 2) by offering our guests firsthand knowledge of the area and its attractions.
